This is a two day course that aims to provide participants with a greater understanding of the wider economic issues affecting the industry, and an improved ability to work together to resolve issues and recognise goals for the future. By the conclusion of the two day workshop participants will be able to:
- Describe the features of the main economic drivers of the Waterfront Industry.
- Define their role in the future of the waterfront industry.
- Explain key aspects and issues for the waterfront industry that will provide participants with a greater understanding of the wider economic issues affecting the industry.
- Improve their ability to work together with employers to resolve issues and recognise goals for the future of the industry.
- Identify a range of options to develop the industry for the future
- Set a task or plan to undertake potential ways to develop a joint union/employer strategy for the industry.
This course replaces the approved one day course which has been enhanced and includes modules providing perspectives from Port employers and Shipping employers

| Involving Women in the Waterfront Industry |

The aim of this course is to evaluate the role of women workers in the waterfront industry with the view to broaden their involvement within the industry. Participants will be able to:
- Examine the barriers for women working on the waterfront, including identifying reasons why some employers do not have women working on the waterfront.
- Encourage more women onto the waterfront and provide them with the knowledge and skills to enable them to develop strategies for increasing involvement in their workplace, through health and safety committees, branch committees and as health and safety reps.
Identify the importance of working with other women to identify problem solving processes and help resolve workplace issues.
