This two-day course aims to provide participants with the knowledge and core competencies to function in their role as a health and safety representative. The skills the participants will develop are as follows:
- Critical thinking to interpret facts and situations
- Communication with others, management, and external agencies
- Accurate documenting, analysis and reporting of facts/ incidents
- Acting as an advocate for healthy and safe work practices in the work place.
Competencies developed by participants at the end of the course will include:
- Knowledge of the requirements of the HSE Act
- Enhanced knowledge and skills in hazard identification and risk management
- The ability to identify and control of significant hazards on their work site(s)
- Communication skills for workplace safety and health issues with the employer
- Accurate reporting, recording and investigation of accident information in terms of causation
- Dealing with workers who have work related injuries and the assisting in their rehabilitation.
