Introduction to Being a Union Representative

- knowledge around Finsec’s structures, and unionism; the union representative’s role and associated key tasks, plus what is an organising issue
- skills in relation to communicating with others verbally one-to-one and in group situations, and strategically distributing written information within the workplace.

Bargaining Skills Training

A two-day course aimed at providing delegates with the necessary development, skills and knowledge to effectively participate in their enterprise bargaining skills team.
Participants who have completed this course will be able to demonstrate acquired bargaining skills, primarily:
- The ability to work within a bargaining team in a planned and effective manner.
- Understand good faith relationships with particular reference to the official code of good faith on bargaining.
- The ability as part of a group, to plan a strategy for bargaining.
- The ability to follow an agreed strategy and to work towards a successful outcome.
- Understand the primary principles of the law surrounding bargaining from initiating through to ratification.

Organising Your Workplace - Stage 2 Finsec Representative Training

The workshop "Organising your Workplace - Stage 2 Finsec Representative Training" aims to:
- increase participants’ knowledge around the collective problem solving process and active communication techniques.
- build participants’ skills around implementing collective problem solving processes and using active communication techniques to increase workers’ participation in their workplace and union.
This two day workshop is designed for workplace delegates and/or activists who have already participated in the Stage 1 Finsec Representative Training - “Introduction to Being a Union Representative”. They should attend this workshop within 12 months of attending the introductory course. |

Advanced Organising Skills

This is a two day workshop for Finsec representatives with responsibility for national level communication, coordination and employer engagement.
It will build intensively on the ”Introduction to being a Union Representative” course and the ‘Organise your Work Place’ courses, focussing on advanced organising skills for senior delegates and elected officials.
The main aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and confidence to actively engage in union campaigning and the resolution of workplace/industry issues at a regional and national level through both informal and formal engagement |

Problem Resolution in the Workplace

This one day course is for Finsec members who have been elected to the role of delegate or who have been identified, or identify themselves as potential workplace leaders. This includes workers interested in undertaking the role of grievance representative. There will be a focus on delegates in rural areas who due to distance can receive less support in problem resolution and delegates in large sites.
This course aims to:
- increase workers’ knowledge of basic legal rights to assist in resolving disputes;
- increase workers’ skills in gathering information from a co-worker about a problem;
- increase workers’ skills to be an advocate in the problem resolution process;
- provide delegates with a range of strategies to deal with problem solving in the workplace.
